Accra, Ghana – Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has publicly forgiven Dr Mary Awusi, CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, following controversial remarks she made about illegal mining.
Dr Awusi had criticized Apostle Nyamekye for stating that some Pentecost branches were unable to baptize in rivers due to environmental damage caused by galamsey activities. The comments sparked public backlash and prompted an apology from Dr Awusi.
Speaking at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in Trassaco on Sunday, Apostle Nyamekye said the incident had inadvertently increased public attention on the church. “I have forgiven her. I want your heart to be at rest,” he told Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who sought forgiveness on Dr Awusi’s behalf.
The Pentecost Chair emphasized the importance of unity despite differing opinions and expressed no ill will toward Dr Awusi.
