Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his respect for Lincoln University, despite the university’s recent decision to withdraw an honorary doctorate previously planned for him.
The University cited concerns from a group related to Mahama’s perceived stance on Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill and broader LGBTQ+ issues.
Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia, Mahama highlighted the historic ties between Ghana and Lincoln University, noting its role in shaping the education and leadership of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
“Lincoln University still holds a special place in my heart, Mahama said. “We cannot divorce the history between Lincoln University and Ghana.”
He assured the community that the longstanding relationship between Ghana and the institution remains intact, emphasizing the importance of historical connections and mutual respect in fostering global understanding.
Meanwhile the Assemblies of God, has described the move by Lincoln University as a “mark of honour,” commending the president for what it called his firm commitment to biblical principles.
