President John Dramani Mahama has responded to the viral ‘Mahama wo de yɛ ka’ cocoa farmer video, emphasizing his government’s dedication to adding value to Ghana’s agricultural exports.
Last week a video of a cocoa farmer hit the internet, eliciting lauhter from internet users. In the said video, the cocoa farmer was heard saying “Mahama Wo De Yɛn Ka,” translated from Twi as “Mahama, you owe us.”
Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia, Mahama stressed that the country’s agricultural strategy goes beyond exporting raw produce, focusing instead on processing, industrialization, and value addition. These measures aim to boost farmer incomes, create jobs, and strengthen Ghana’s export earnings.
“Ghana cannot rely solely on raw agricultural exports,” Mahama noted. “Our goal is to transform our agriculture sector to benefit farmers, industry, and the nation’s economy.”
The remarks underscore ongoing efforts to modernize Ghana’s agricultural sector while ensuring that farmers reap the economic benefits of processed and higher-value products.
