President John Dramani Mahama has been awarded the International Statesperson Award by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the organization’s highest honor recognizing global leadership.
The award, presented periodically since 1973, celebrates international figures whose work advances peace, freedom, and lasting contributions to world affairs. President Mahama is the first African leader to receive this prestigious recognition.
At the award ceremony, Lauren Swartz, President and CEO of World Affairs, praised Mahama for exemplifying the qualities the award seeks to honor, including democratic leadership, strengthening international partnerships, fostering peaceful political transitions, promoting economic and regional development, and advocating for Africa globally.
In his acceptance speech, President Mahama acknowledged that his commitment to global peace and development was inspired by Africa’s pioneering leaders, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, and Kenneth Kaunda.
The World Affairs Council describes its mission as a platform “where continents, cultures, and ideas connect,” highlighting the international impact of leaders like Mahama in shaping dialogue and partnerships that advance global progress.
This recognition cements President Mahama’s legacy as a champion of democracy, peace, and African development on the world stage.
