The Minority in Parliament has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately dismiss the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, accusing him of practising confrontational diplomacy instead of negotiation.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Minority, led by Deputy Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee of Parliament, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, said Mr Ablakwa’s approach to foreign relations risks damaging Ghana’s longstanding diplomatic ties and international reputation. According to them, diplomacy must be guided by dialogue, tact, and strategic engagement, not public confrontation.
The group argued that recent actions and comments attributed to the Foreign Affairs Minister reflect what they described as “megaphone diplomacy,” which they say undermines Ghana’s credibility on the global stage.
The Minority insisted that Ghana’s foreign policy tradition has always been rooted in quiet negotiation and mutual respect, adding that any deviation from this approach could have serious consequences for trade, security cooperation, and international partnerships.
They have urged President Mahama to act swiftly in the interest of the country by removing Mr Ablakwa from office and restoring what they called professionalism and restraint at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
