General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has warned party members against what he described as rising levels of sycophancy and bootlicking within the party.
Speaking at the 31st December Anniversary celebration in the Volta Region on Wednesday, 31st December 2025, Fifi Kwetey expressed concern that some individuals in the party are prioritising personal interests over loyalty to Ghana and the NDC’s founding values.
“It saddens me when I see so much sycophancy creeping into our party. I see a group of people who believe that singing the praises of a leader is the only way they can survive,” he said.
The NDC Chief Scribe slammed individuals advocating for a ‘third term’ for leadership, describing the calls as unhealthy and contrary to the spirit of democracy.
“That is why you hear some of those people even making statements like there should be a third term. It’s nothing but sycophancy, pure sycophancy and bootlicking of the highest order,” he stressed.
Fifi Kwetey referenced the party’s founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings, noting that at no point did anyone attempt to push him towards unconstitutional political longevity.
“Jerry Rawlings, who was the founder of this party, never at any point was pressured by anybody to go for any third term,” he emphasised.
He reminded party faithful that the NDC was built on discipline, accountability, and service to the people, not blind allegiance to individuals.
“You don’t love our country, you don’t love our party if you do these things. This party was grounded on the need to work for our people,” he said.
“Cadets may go, Cadets may come, but the revolution has come to stay. That simply means it is not about individuals. It’s about us as a collective… It’s about us as a nation,” he reinforced the popular NDC revolutionary phrase.
The General Secretary urged members to remain committed to national interest, party unity, and the principles that built the NDC into a formidable political force.
He reiterated that the survival and credibility of the party depend on discipline, loyalty to values, and dedication to improving the lives of the Ghanaian people.
