UK Imposes 10-Year Visa Bans on Over 1,600 Ghanaians in Crackdown on Visa Fraud

The United Kingdom has imposed 10-year visa bans on 1,632 Ghanaians caught using fraudulent documents in their visa applications, representing four percent of all Ghanaian applicants last year. British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Rogg warned that many were misled by fake agents, emphasizing, “Fraud is never worth the risk.” In a statement, it noted that visa fraud remains a persistent problem for many Ghanaians, with fake agents and misinformation causing significant financial losses, emotional strain, and long-term travel restrictions.

The ban coincides with a joint public awareness campaign by the High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the UK during International Fraud Awareness Week (Nov 16–22, 2025) in Ghana. The campaign urges applicants to use official channels and avoid scams.

The three high commissioners explained that the campaign is part of a global initiative led by UK Visas & Immigration and supported by countries such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Australian High Commissioner Berenice Owen-Jones and Canadian High Commissioner Myriam Montrat both stressed their countries’ commitment to combatting visa fraud and protecting genuine applicants.

The High Commissions will share educational content on social media using the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH to promote safe visa application practices.
