President Mahama Approves Two-Year Extension for Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno

In a decisive move signaling confidence in seasoned leadership, President John Dramani Mahama has approved a two-year extension for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, allowing him to continue serving beyond the statutory retirement age this December.

The official letter, signed on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, follows a strong recommendation from the Police Council. This extension, effective December 28, 2025, entrusts IGP Yohuno with the continued helm of the Ghana Police Service during a pivotal period of transformation.

The Presidency underscored the critical nature of this decision, emphasizing that Yohuno’s proven leadership is indispensable as the service embarks on extensive reforms aimed at boosting operational efficiency and institutional stability.

“The President’s decision reflects the Council’s unwavering conviction that your seasoned leadership is vital to driving ongoing reforms, enhancing operational effectiveness, and maintaining stability within the Ghana Police Service at this crucial juncture,” the statement affirmed.

IGP Yohuno has been requested to formally accept the extension within three days of receiving the letter. Copies have been dispatched to key government officials including the Vice President, Chief of Staff, and Minister for the Interior.
