In an unambiguous declaration, President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s ironclad commitment to rooting out corruption within his government. Speaking to the Christian Council of Ghana during their courtesy visit on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the president did not mince words.
“But I have served notice to my ministers, ask them. Everyday in cabinet, I remind them. I say the prosecutions that we are currently taking against the previous government , woe betide the first person who brings a scandal to this government. We shall hang them on a cross. And you’ll follow our Lord Jesus Christ, just that you cannot resurrect again,” President Mahama declared with solemn conviction.
The president’s striking metaphor is a declaration of a no-compromise stance on corruption, sending a clear message across all levels of government. He lamented how past administrations often sidestepped corruption issues while in office, only for these matters to be unearthed and politicized by successor governments.
“I have said several times that our problem in the fight against corruption is that it is always post-regime corruption that we fight.”, he stated.
“ And so when a government is in office, when scandals are taking place, when a government is in office, when scandals are taking place, they don’t deal with them. They leave it until a new government comes. And when that government begins investigating, then the previous administration cries ‘witch-hunt’,” he continued.
He underscored that corruption cases—whether involving his government or the previous one—will be handled with strict adherence to due process. He also warned that public pressure will not dictate the pace of investigations without proper documentation and thorough dockets.
To reinforce the fight against corruption, President Mahama assured the Christian Council that his government is bolstering key institutions and providing the necessary resources to ensure an effective and impartial anti-corruption framework.
