The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has openly declared his support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as he seeks to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Mr. Awuku invoked spiritual guidance from the party’s forebears—Danquah, Dombo, and Busia—asking that their “gentle souls” inspire Dr. Bawumia as he files his nomination to contest the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primaries.
“The journey won’t be easy, but I am confident it shall end in praise. I stand with Bawumia,” the lawmaker affirmed.
Awuku, a former National Lottery Authority (NLA) boss, further appealed for civility in the campaign, urging party members to promote their candidates’ values without insults or antagonism.
He expressed optimism that with unity, discipline, and divine guidance, the NPP will return to power in 2028.
