Partey granted bail after court appearance on rape, sexual assault charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on five counts of rape and sexual assault involving three women.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey, 32, denies all charges. During the brief court session on Tuesday, which lasted under 15 minutes, he was not required to enter a plea but confirmed he understood the charges and bail conditions.

Thomas Partey has been accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said.

The court heard that Partey allegedly raped one of the women three times at his home in Hertfordshire. He is also accused of attacking one of the woman at a resort in Spain.

The case has been referred to the Crown Court, with Partey expected to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2. He was initially arrested in July 2022 but remained unnamed and continued playing for Arsenal while investigations were ongoing.
