The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has threatened to embark on an industrial action if government fails to resolve what it terms several critical welfare and condition-of-service grievances by June 30, 2026. The decision according to a statement was arrived at during a statutory quarterly meeting on June 18, 2026. The move follows what the union describes as “deep frustration over repeated government delays which undermine the collective bargaining process”. According to the statement, if the government fails to take immediate action by the deadline, UTAG branches will initiate constitutional consultations within five working days to secure mandates for a nationwide strike.
According to UTAG the key issues in contention include:
-
- Unpaid Book and Research Allowances
- Unresolved salary adjustments and arrears
- Delays with Interim Salary Adjustment Agreements and off-campus allowances (OTSA)Â
