The High Court in Accra has granted bail to five persons accused of using fake TikTok accounts of prominent Ghanaian personalities to allegedly defraud unsuspecting victims of more than GH¢500,000.
Each accused person was granted bail in the sum of GH¢600,000 with two justified sureties, bringing the total bail amount to GH¢3 million.
The court, presided over by Justice Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, also ordered the accused persons to report to the police weekly pending the final determination of the case.
Prosecutors say the suspects allegedly impersonated high-profile personalities including Lordina Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama, John Dumelo, Asamoah Gyan and Twum Barima through multiple fake TikTok and social media accounts.
According to the prosecution, the accused persons allegedly lured victims with promises of huge financial rewards through an application known as “Trust Wallet,” falsely claiming users would receive large sums of money in foreign currency after making payments.
The accused persons allegedly collected various sums of money from victims under the guise of activation fees and access codes.
The suspects include a juvenile whose identity has been withheld, Ahmed Mensah, Ebenezer Ato Mensah, Bernard Mensah and Blessed Sam.
Investigators say the group allegedly used the proceeds from the fraudulent scheme to finance personal acquisitions, including the construction of a house and the purchase of vehicles, motorbikes and mobile phones.
The accused persons were arrested on March 31, 2026, and investigations are still ongoing.
