Police Inspector interdicted over alleged defilement

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an alleged defilement and incest case involving a police inspector stationed at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.

According to the police, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie is being investigated by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona over allegations that he sexually abused his 14-year-old daughter.

Police say the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa from Koforidua on behalf of the victim, identified as Cecilia Owusu Afriyie.

The victim was subsequently referred to a government health facility for medical examination to aid investigations.

The Police Command disclosed that Inspector Afriyie reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026, where he was arrested and cautioned.

In his statement to investigators, the officer denied the allegations. He was later granted enquiry bail and instructed to report to investigators periodically.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command further stated that the officer has been interdicted to allow investigations to proceed without interference.

Police have assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and that further updates will be communicated in due course.
