M/V Sankofa: Sammi Awuku vows to pursue matter through institutional and legal processes

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has vowed to pursue his Right to Information (RTI) request to the Ghana Maritime Authority to logical conclusion through institutional and legal processes.

The Vice Chairman for Parliament’s Committee of Public Administration and State Interest has explained that although he withdrew an earlier application to the GMA, he subsequently submitted a fresh request seeking specific details.

Lawmaker in a social media post expressed concern the withdrawal letter had been publicized in a manner that distorts the sequence and intent of his actions.

In the post responding to the Ghana Maritime Authority’s recent press statement, the Mr. Awuku argued the Authority failed to adequately address the eleven questions contained in his latest RTI request.

He  charged the Authority to comprehensively and in a formal manner respond to his request providing the public with all relevant facts.

“For clarity, I initially submitted an RTI application which I later withdrew. I then filed a new request seeking specific information. It is therefore concerning that the withdrawal letter has been publicized in a way that misrepresents the sequence and intent of my actions,” he explained.

“After reviewing the Authority’s statement, I must state that it does not adequately address the eleven (11) questions raised in my RTI request. I expect this response to fully address the issues raised and present all relevant facts to the public.” He added.
