DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil has been relieved of his role as leader of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team as investigations continue into an alleged assault involving him and members of his unit.

The development follows claims that the officer and his team were involved in an incident with Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, which is currently under probe.

A formal handover ceremony was held on April 7, 2026, at the National Police Training School in Accra to facilitate the leadership transition. DSP Jalil officially handed over command to Superintendent Augustine Dawson Amoah, who assumes the role with the support of three senior officers.
In his farewell remarks, DSP Jalil urged personnel of the unit to cooperate with the new leadership to ensure smooth operations.
Taking over, Superintendent Amoah pledged to provide strong leadership and encouraged officers to maintain professionalism, unity, and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
The reassignment is seen as an administrative measure while investigations proceed.
