Court remands Abronye DC over failure to surrender passport

The Accra High Court has remanded the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, into police custody for failing to comply with a bail condition requiring him to surrender his passport.

The court issued the order after determining that Abronye DC had not adhered to the terms attached to the bail granted to him in an ongoing criminal case. He was absent from court when the ruling was delivered.

Abronye DC is facing a charge of false publication in a case brought by the State.

The NPP regional chairman was granted bail last month after being remanded following his arraignment. As part of the bail conditions, he was directed to deposit his passport with the court.

However, his alleged failure to comply with the directive led the court to revoke the relief and order his remand in police custody.

The substantive criminal case remains before the Circuit Court, where proceedings on the false publication charge are ongoing.
