The Ghana Police Service says the husband of Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, will appear before court following his discharge from hospital.
According to the Police, Harold Norman was scheduled to appear before court on October 7, 2026, but his lawyer informed investigators that he had been admitted to hospital.
The Police said investigators from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) have since visited the hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation.
“Investigators from DOVVSU have visited the said hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation to ensure he is arraigned immediately upon discharge,” the Police said.
The case follows a petition filed by Nana Akua with the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
The allegations attracted significant public attention after videos relating to the alleged abuse circulated on social media.
The Police said preliminary investigations also established that an earlier case involving the couple had been handled by DOVVSU at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations.
“A caution statement was subsequently obtained from him and on 29th August, 2026 he was granted a Police enquiry bail with two sureties while investigation continued,” the statement said.
The CID said it is also working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for Nana Akua and her children.
“The Criminal Investigation Department is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the provision of social welfare services for the victim and the children,” the Police said.
The Police further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints are investigated professionally and fairly.
