Baffour Awuah arrested over SIC financial loss, money laundering – EOCO

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in connection with ongoing investigations into allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a Senior Partner at Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, voluntarily surrendered himself to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. to assist investigators.

In a statement, EOCO said his appearance followed “several months of efforts by the Office to secure his attendance before investigators” over the matters under investigation.

The Office said the investigations cover allegations relating to “criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation.”

Following his surrender, EOCO said it commenced the applicable investigative and operational procedures and subsequently placed him under arrest.

“In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO stated.

The Office said the investigations would be conducted professionally and independently and in accordance with due process.

“EOCO further wishes to assure the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process,” the statement said.

EOCO also cautioned the public against speculation or reaching premature conclusions about the lawyer’s culpability, stressing that all persons involved are entitled to their constitutional and legal rights.

The investigation is ongoing, and EOCO said it would continue to examine available evidence and pursue all relevant lines of inquiry.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is a Senior Partner at Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners. His voluntary appearance before EOCO follows months of efforts by the anti-graft agency to secure his attendance for questioning.

EOCO said it will provide further information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.
