Former Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor has criticised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over its attempt to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, saying the agency should have followed the appropriate parliamentary procedure.
Dr. Donkor said investigative agencies previously dealt with MPs through the Office of the Speaker, arguing that the approach adopted by EOCO could undermine an otherwise legitimate investigation.
“EOCO is absolutely wrong with their approach. In opposition we were all invited by investigative bodies and this was done through the Office of the Speaker.”
He added, “Indeed I wrote one of my caution statements in the Conference Room of the Rt Hon Speaker.”
According to Dr. Donkor, investigative agencies must be mindful of procedure when handling cases involving serving parliamentarians.
“If you handle a good case wrongly, the case becomes ‘wrong’. EOCO should come again.”
His comments come amid criticism from the Minority in Parliament over the attempted arrest of Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23.
The Minority has questioned the manner in which EOCO sought to arrest the MP and called for respect for parliamentary privileges and due process.
EOCO, however, has maintained that the attempted arrest formed part of an ongoing investigation.
The agency said Baffour Awuah had been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with the investigation but failed to honour the invitations.
