Zoomlion launches fumigation, disinfection exercise across 14 MMDAs in Western Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched a fumigation and disinfection exercise across all 14 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Western Region to prevent outbreaks of cholera, typhoid and malaria following recent floods.

The exercise, being undertaken as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, began simultaneously in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.

The intervention is targeting flood-affected communities, stagnant water bodies and public spaces considered potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other disease-causing organisms.

Speaking to journalists during the exercise in Takoradi, Western Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Patrick Akorful, urged residents to cooperate with the fumigation teams.

“We ask the public to welcome our teams as they move through communities and facilities. This is a free emergency service, and our sole aim is to safeguard public health.”

Residents have welcomed the intervention, with some expressing concerns about the increase in mosquito populations following the floods.

A resident of Kwesimintsim, Grace Mensah, said the spraying exercise had brought relief to families in affected communities.

“Seeing the Zoomlion team spray around us brings great comfort. We truly appreciate this swift intervention.”

Local authorities and environmental health officials have also commended Zoomlion for the initiative.

Assembly Member for Cassava Farm, Abraham Rex Kotobebi, said the intervention complements ongoing environmental sanitation efforts by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.

Western Regional Environmental Health Analyst, Benjamin Baah, described the exercise as timely and important to strengthening preventive health measures in the region.

Zoomlion says the exercise forms part of efforts to support the broader emergency response to health risks associated with flooding across the country.
