The Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization has alleged that former Executive Secretary of the committee Dennis Miracles Aboagye requested portions of a 2025 forensic audit report be dropped.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, the committee claimed that Mr. Aboagye, through his lawyers and a mutual friend, invited the incumbent Executive Secretary to a meeting in July last year over the report.
“During the meeting, Mr. Aboagye asked that aspects of the audit findings be dropped, including findings on two bank accounts. One of those accounts recorded transactions totalling GH¢ 102,256,802.69 and was not disclosed in the handing-over notes,” the statement said.
According to the secretariat, this request was subsequently declined by the Executive Secretary.
Background
Following his release from the custody of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) after meeting his bail conditions early this month, Mr. Aboagye said in an interview that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) asked his successor to find something on him.
According to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, the instruction was based on his criticism of the government.
However, the committee has dismissed Mr. Aboagye’s claims, describing them as false.
“The Secretariat categorically refutes Mr. Aboagye’s claim that the Executive Secretary instructed him to stop commenting on government matters… for clarity, no such directive or instruction was issued. At no point was such alleged disclosure made,” the statement added.
The committee has further rejected the claim that the incumbent Executive Secretary is targeting Mr. Aboagye through the audit because of a prior termination of appointment.
It added that no audit or review of its operations is intended to victimize any former official.
“Administrative, financial, and operational reviews are standard governance practices; therefore, allegations of persecution are false, unfounded, and misleading,” it stated.
