The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of narcotics and attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢100,000 during an intelligence-led operation in the Eastern Region.
According to police, the operation conducted on May 10, 2026, led to the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp believed to be destined for Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, the Regional Police Intelligence Department acted on a tip-off about narcotics allegedly hidden at Akosombo-Bonya.
Police officers mounted surveillance near Krobo Girls Senior High School. They intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 before tracking it to a secluded area near Atua Government Hospital.
The statement said officers intervened while suspects were transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda Tipper Truck with registration number GN 7948-21.

Police disclosed that the initial suspects fled into the bush upon seeing officers, but the vehicles and suspected narcotics were secured.
A 39-year-old welder identified as Solomon Tettey later approached officers and claimed ownership of both the vehicles and the consignment.
According to police, the suspect admitted the narcotics were being transported to Nigeria.
The statement further indicated that Solomon Tettey attempted to compromise the investigation by offering officers a GH¢100,000 bribe.
Police said officers feigned interest in the offer to secure evidence, during which the suspect reportedly transferred GH¢90,000 through Mobile Money and added GH¢10,000 cash.
Backup personnel from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Odumase Police later moved in to arrest him.
Two additional suspects, identified as Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were subsequently arrested after reporting themselves to the Regional Police Headquarters.
The suspects and the exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
Police say the operation demonstrates the Service’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking and maintaining integrity within law enforcement operations.
