Champions League: PSG hold Bayern to reach back-to-back  finals

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain booked their place in a second consecutive UEFA Champions League final after battling to a 1-1 draw against FC Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night. Luis Enrique’s side advanced 6-5 on aggregate after their dramatic 5-4 first-leg victory in Paris last week.

PSG struck early in Munich through Ousmane Dembele, who finished brilliantly in the third minute after a rapid counterattack led by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Bayern pushed relentlessly for a comeback throughout the match and finally found an equaliser deep into stoppage time when Harry Kane fired home in the 94th minute, but it proved too late to stop the French champions from progressing.

Unlike the thrilling nine-goal first leg in Paris, the return fixture in Germany was far more tactical and tense. PSG showed greater defensive discipline and resilience as they absorbed heavy Bayern pressure while still threatening on the counterattack. Goalkeeper Matvei Safonov and the PSG backline produced several crucial interventions to deny Vincent Kompany’s side, who dominated large periods of possession but struggled to convert their chances until Kane’s late strike.

The result sends PSG into consecutive Champions League finals for the first time in the club’s history as they continue their bid to retain the European crown. The French giants will now face Arsenal FC in the final on May 30 in Budapest after the English side eliminated Atletico Madrid in the other semifinal.
