The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspected armed robbers following an intelligence-led operation in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
The suspects—Abdulai Ibrahim, Amadu Rahman, Amadu Sulemana (aka Saaga), and Adu Yakubu—were apprehended on May 5, 2026. Investigations reveal that on May 4, 2026, the group converged at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District, after traveling from Yagaba and Fumbisi to carry out a robbery operation. During the incident, they stole four motorbikes and several mobile phones.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to a series of robberies across the Talensi District and along the Yagaba–Fumbisi and Yagaba–Nanguruma roads in the North East Region. They also admitted to a robbery at the Vikandi Phone Shop in Bolgatanga on March 22, 2025, widely circulated in a viral video showing them wielding an AK47 rifle. Multiple robberies at Gbane mining sites were also confessed, involving theft of gold and large sums of money.

The suspects led police to a farm near Biung, close to Gbane, where gang leader Amadu Rahman had hidden an AK47 rifle (serial number 68100563) and 87 rounds of live ammunition in a fertilizer sack. During the recovery operation, Rahman collapsed and was pronounced dead at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where his body has been deposited for autopsy.
The remaining three suspects are in police custody and are set to appear in court to face charges.
