Atebubu paramount chief urges Metro Mass Transit to expand services to boost local economy

The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah, has appealed to Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) to extend its services to Atebubu and nearby communities to improve transportation and economic activity in the area.

The appeal was made during a recent courtesy visit to the Managing Director of MMTL, Kale Cezar. According to the chief, the absence of a reliable commercial transport system has posed significant challenges for farmers, leading to post-harvest losses and reduced income.

He emphasized that introducing Metro Mass services to Atebubu would enhance access to markets, ease the movement of goods and people, and ultimately boost the municipality’s economic prospects. He also commended the company’s leadership for its role in advancing Ghana’s transportation sector and encouraged continued efforts toward national development.

In response, Mr. Cezar acknowledged the concerns raised and outlined key measures being implemented to improve operations at MMTL. These include salary adjustments, enhanced staff welfare, and incentive packages aimed at increasing productivity and service delivery.

He further revealed that the company is expecting a new fleet of buses, with the first batch scheduled to arrive by the end of March 2026, followed by additional deliveries in the coming months.

Mr. Cezar assured the Paramount Chief that MMTL plans to introduce bus services along the Atebubu route and establish a full branch office in the municipality to serve residents and surrounding communities. He also disclosed plans to roll out cargo transport services to support farmers and traders in moving goods safely and efficiently.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve livelihoods across the Atebubu area, particularly for farmers who rely heavily on access to markets.
