Black Queens win Pink Ladies Cup

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Ghana women’s national football team, popularly known as the Black Queens, have been declared champions of the Pink Ladies Cup after the 2026 edition ended earlier than planned in the United Arab Emirates.

The Black Queens topped the standings after an impressive campaign in which they recorded consecutive 4–0 wins over HongKong women’s national football team and Russia women’s national football team. Those convincing victories placed Ghana first on the table with six points, eight goals scored, and no goals conceded in the two matches they played.

The final fixture against Tanzania women’s national football team, which was expected to decide the tournament winner, was cancelled by the organisers.

After the cancellation, officials from the competition visited the team at their hotel in Sharjah on Friday to present the players with the trophy and their gold medals.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren commended the team for their clinical performances throughout the competition, singling out the victory over Russia as one of the most impressive displays since he took charge.

Key contributions came from players including Doris Boaduwaa and debutant Ajegipena Zakaria, who both played important roles in the team’s attacking success.

The victory provides a timely confidence boost for the Black Queens as they prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which has been moved to July 2026. The team is expected to leave the UAE at the earliest available opportunity.
