Liverpool Trounce Brighton to Reach FA Cup Fifth Round

Liverpool advanced confidently to the FA Cup fifth round, defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 in a commanding performance at Anfield on Saturday, February 14, 2026. This decisive victory, highlighted by goals from Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and a Mohamed Salah penalty, showcased Arne Slot’s squad in excellent form.

The breakthrough came just before halftime when Curtis Jones, deployed unexpectedly at right-back, netted his first goal in 57 appearances, expertly converting a cross from Milos Kerkez in the 42nd minute. This opener seemed to energize the Liverpool side.

The Reds maintained their dominance after the break, extending their lead in the 56th minute. A well-worked move culminated in Mohamed Salah setting up Dominik Szoboszlai, who then unleashed a powerful strike into the net.

Mohamed Salah put the game beyond doubt in the 68th minute, calmly converting a penalty after being fouled by Pascal Gross. This goal was particularly significant for Salah, marking his first domestic goal since November 2025 and capping an influential display where he also contributed an assist and earned the penalty.

Although Brighton managed more shots, 17 to Liverpool’s 13, most lacked the precision to trouble Alisson Becker, who also made key saves from Lewis Dunk and Diego Gomez to preserve the clean sheet. Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, conceded that Liverpool’s clinical finishing was the difference.

A late effort from 17-year-old substitute Rio Ngumoha was disallowed for a narrow offside decision.

This victory not only propels Liverpool further in the FA Cup, a competition they now view as a serious target, but it also compounds Brighton’s current struggles, extending their winless streak to five games. Liverpool now awaits the draw on Monday, February 16 to learn their next opponent.
