A blast linked to a suspected terrorist attack has struck the town of Titao in northern Burkina Faso, raising fears over the safety of several Ghanaian nationals.
Preliminary reports indicate that a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders was caught up in the explosion during the incident. Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior has described the development as disturbing and says efforts are underway to verify the identities and condition of those involved.
There are eports that the attack was carried out by Islamist militant, group Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) in Titao, Burkina Faso.
Authorities in Ghana have confirmed that the country’s embassy in Ouagadougou is engaging Burkinabe officials to gather details and provide assistance where necessary. Casualty figures have not yet been officially confirmed.
Northern Burkina Faso has experienced recurring extremist violence in recent years, with armed groups frequently targeting security convoys and civilian vehicles.
