In a dramatic twist typical of the current Premier League season, Nottingham Forest has officially unveiled Vitor Pereira as their new head coach. The Portuguese manager has signed a deal to lead the club until the end of the current campaign, stepping into a role that has seen an unprecedented amount of turnover this year.
Pereira’s arrival marks the fourth managerial change at the City Ground this season, a stark illustration of the club’s turbulent journey. His predecessor, Sean Dyche, lasted just 114 days, with his tenure concluding after a goalless draw against Wolves. Dyche followed Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, who also departed earlier in the season.
The 57-year-old Pereira is no stranger to the Premier League or to Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. He previously managed Wolves, where he masterminded a successful escape from relegation last season after taking over in December 2024. However, his second stint in England ended in November after a difficult start to the current campaign saw Wolves collect a mere two points from ten winless weeks. His connection with Marinakis runs deeper, having guided Olympiakos to a league and cup double back in 2015.
The challenge ahead for Pereira is monumental. Nottingham Forest currently languishes in 17th place in the Premier League table, hovering just three points above the dreaded relegation zone with only 12 games remaining. His primary objective is unequivocally clear: secure Premier League survival.
The fixture list offers little reprieve. Pereira’s baptism of fire is expected to be a crucial Europa League play-off tie against Fenerbahce, followed by a daunting run of Premier League encounters against giants like Liverpool, Brighton, and Manchester City.
Unsurprisingly, the constant carousel of managers has sparked a mixed reaction among the Forest faithful. While some fans hope Pereira’s experience in relegation battles will prove decisive, many express growing frustration and skepticism over the club’s perceived instability and leadership decisions.
Marinakis appears to be banking on a familiar face to inject stability and, crucially, an improved attacking impetus—a facet many felt was lacking under Dyche. Whether Pereira can once again pull a rabbit out of the hat and steer the Tricky Trees to safety remains the burning question on everyone’s mind.
