Several people have reportedly been burnt beyond recognition, while many others have been injured after a fuel tanker exploded at Ntoaso on the main Accra–Nsawam road in the Eastern Region.

The explosion happened at dawn on Saturday and caused a massive fire. At least five vehicles and five motorbikes were engulfed in flames.

Eyewitnesses said the fire spread quickly, leading to multiple casualties and causing extensive damage.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, National Ambulance Service and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were deployed to the scene. They are assisting with rescue operations and controlling the crowd.

A witness, Kwadwo Minta, said emergency responders are working hard to put out the fire and transport the injured to nearby health facilities.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of deaths and injuries. Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the explosion.
