Six victims who sustained severe burns in Saturday’s fuel tanker explosion at Ntoaso near Nsawam on the Accra–Kumasi Highway have been referred from Suhum Government Hospital to the Eastern Regional Hospital for specialist treatment.

Four others have been treated and discharged, while 10 victims remain on admission.
Three charred bodies — two unidentified men and one person found in a burnt vehicle — were retrieved from the scene.

Eastern South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Boadi Bossman, said about 20 victims were initially sent to hospital following the blast.
“When we got here, 20 of the victims were sent to the hospital,” he stated.
He cautioned the public against approaching accident scenes involving fuel tankers.
“Anytime a tanker falls or is involved in an accident, nobody should go near it. The container is flammable. It can explode.”

Police say the tanker, which was transporting petrol from Tema to Kumasi, lost control at a section of the Accra–Suhum dual carriageway at Ntoaso. The tanker ruptured, spilling fuel onto vehicles behind it and triggering the explosion.
Six vehicles and four motorcycles were destroyed in the fire.
