Ghanaian social media users have expressed outrage after videos allegedly showing a Russian national approaching women in public spaces went viral online. The clips, shared on platforms including X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp, reportedly show the man engaging women in conversations and recording interactions, some continuing into private settings.
The man, identified in reports as Yaytseslav, is alleged to have filmed intimate encounters without clear consent and circulated some of the videos on paid channels for subscribers. The incidents have raised concerns over privacy violations, consent, and online exploitation.
Davis Ansah Opoku, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, has called on the Ghana Police Service, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to investigate the matter and take action if allegations are confirmed. Legal experts say the alleged conduct could violate Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), which criminalises non-consensual recording and distribution of private content.
The controversy has sparked debate about online ethics and digital safety. Women’s rights advocates emphasise that agreeing to a conversation does not constitute consent to being filmed or having personal footage shared.
