Ghana Black Queens Pitched in Pot 1 Ahead of WAFCON Group Stage Draw

Ghana’s Black Queens are set to discover their opponents for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on January 15, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the group stage draw in Rabat, Morocco. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on March 17 and run until April 3 in Morocco.

The Black Queens, ranked third in Africa in 2025, have been placed in Pot 1 alongside 15 other teams, including hosts Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa, after finishing as bronze medalists in Morocco last year.

The 2026 WAFCON will feature a record 16 teams, marking a significant expansion from previous editions.

The tournament will also serve as the African qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, which head coach Kim Lars Björkegren will be hoping to qualify for, marking Ghana’s first appearance in 19 years.
