Parliament has paid tribute to the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Naser Toure Mahama, hailing him as a detail-oriented legislator who made significant contributions through committee work and rigorous policy scrutiny.
The late MP, who passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, was described as a diligent “committee man” who served on several key parliamentary committees, including Energy, Roads and Transportation, and the House Committee.
Speaking at the funeral on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, said Hon. Mahama’s work in committee settings was marked by discipline, depth, and a strong commitment to accountability.
Reading a tribute on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Mr Ahiafor noted that the late MP’s professional background in the oil and energy sector significantly enhanced Parliament’s oversight of petroleum regulation and licensing.
“Honourable Naser was known for meticulous preparation and a strong focus on value-for-money assessments during committee deliberations, frequently interrogating whether government contracts served the best interests of taxpayers,” the tribute stated.
Mr Ahiafor further indicated that Hon. Mahama’s contributions on the Floor of Parliament were largely advanced through formal parliamentary questions, with particular attention to drainage and flood control, health infrastructure development, and hospital projects in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Parliament described his passing as a great loss to the House and to Ghana’s democratic governance, noting that his commitment to scrutiny and accountability set a high standard for legislative service.
