The Desert Foxes of Algeria secured a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Leopards of DR Congo in their Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 clash. The winning goal came from super-sub Adil Boulbina in the 119th minute of extra time at Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The match was intense and closely contested, with both teams creating chances but unable to find the net during regular time. The decisive moment arrived late when Boulbina found space near DR Congo’s goal and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner, following a perfect setup from Ramiz Zerrouki. The ball cannoned under the crossbar and into the net, sparking celebrations among the Algerian supporters.

This dramatic win sends Algeria into the quarterfinals, where they will face Nigeria, who defeated Mozambique 4-0 in Fes on Monday night.
For DR Congo, it was a heartbreaking exit, ending their hopes of reaching the last eight. Nevertheless, there are positives to take ahead of their participation in the 2026 World Cup inter-confederation playoffs in March. Goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi delivered a strong performance with crucial saves that kept his team in the contest, but Algeria’s persistence ultimately prevailed.
