Venezuela’s new leader, Delcy Rodríguez, is set to be sworn in before the National Assembly amid escalating tensions following the arrest of her predecessor, Nicolás Maduro, in a US operation. Maduro faces charges including drug trafficking and weapons offenses, accused of leading a so-called “narco-terrorist” regime, allegations he denies.
China and Iran, key allies of Maduro, have condemned the US action, demanding his release and accusing Washington of violating international law. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump has warned Rodríguez she could “pay a very big price” if she fails to act appropriately.
In response, Rodríguez called for peace and dialogue, urging an end to conflict for the sake of the region’s stability.
