Ghana’s Parliament has approved the Ghana Sports Fund Bill, a groundbreaking legislation aimed at revolutionising the country’s sports sector. Passed on December 18, 2025, the bill establishes a dedicated Sports Development Fund to support athlete welfare, infrastructure development, grassroots programs, and talent identification.
The fund will be sustained through annual parliamentary allocations, donations, and other revenue streams, with oversight by an independent board to guarantee transparency and accountability.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams described the bill’s passage as a game-changer, highlighting the government’s commitment to bolstering sports development across the nation. The fund aims to address infrastructure gaps, enhance support for athletes, and promote the growth of grassroots sports.
Key priorities include upgrading stadiums and training facilities, supporting athletes’ welfare, and fostering grassroots participation. The initiative is also expected to stimulate sports tourism, create employment opportunities, and contribute to economic growth.
