A husband and wife have been arrested by the Kokrobite District Police in the Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region, for allegedly beating their 13-year-old daughter to death after accusing her of eating her brother’s leftover food without informing them.
The tragic incident unfolded when the couple accused the deceased, Celestine, of stealing food belonging to her younger sibling.
According to police sources, the man, Issah Mohammed, had previously divorced the girl’s biological mother due to excessive domestic violence.
Issah now lives with a new partner, Yaa Grace, who is the girl’s stepmother.
Reports indicate that the stepmother informed Issah about the alleged theft after he returned from work, resulting in a brutal assault on Celestine.
Eyewitnesses told the media that Issah used a cane, shovel, and cutlass in the attack.
The girl suffered severe internal injuries and died from internal bleeding.
Shockingly, after the assault, the couple reportedly locked Celestine in a room for an entire day without food or water, leaving her unattended until she passed away the next day.
Neighbors who became aware of the situation reported it to the police, leading to the arrest of the couple.
Justina Acquah, elder sister of the deceased’s biological mother, condemned the father’s actions, highlighting a history of abuse.
She called for justice, noting that her sister had left the marriage because of his violent behavior.
The Kokrobite District Police Command has launched an investigation into the case.
Celestine’s body has been taken to the Police Hospital for post-mortem examination.
