Kirin Cup: Abu Francis Walks Again, After Career-threatening Injury

Black Stars and Toulouse midfield dynamo, Francis Abu is on the road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery to correct a double fracture in his right tibia and fibula. The Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM shared that Abu’s condition has significantly improved, and he’s in high spirits.

The initial rehabilitation is going as planned, and Abu is expected to be discharged from the hospital this weekend. A physiotherapist from the GFA will stay with him in Japan to support his recovery, and he’ll be accompanied back to France by a GFA official.

Abu’s injury was a major blow, but it’s encouraging to see him making progress. The Toulouse midfielder sustained the gory injury during Ghana’s 2-0 loss to the Blue Samurai of Japan in the Kirin Cup last Friday after his ankle was kicked from behind by Leeds United player, AoTanaka.
