NHIA Waives Waiting Period, Allowing New & Long-Expired NHIS Subscribers Access Healthcare Services

The National Health Insurance Authority has waived the mandatory one-month waiting period for newly registered and long-expired National Health Insurance Scheme members, granting them instant access to healthcare services until December 14, 2025.

The initiative forms part of the NHIS Active Month campaign, which aims to boost active membership and ensure that no Ghanaian is left behind in accessing affordable healthcare.

According to a public notice from the NHIA, the waiver applies to all first-time enrollees as well as individuals renewing their membership after it has lapsed for more than three months. “This means that all eligible members who renew or enroll during the NHIS Active Month will enjoy immediate access to NHIS services, without the usual waiting period,” the Authority said.

The NHIA is encouraging the public to take advantage of multiple renewal channels, including NHIS district offices, the MyNHIS mobile app, the *929# short code, and the Auto-Renewal option for continuous coverage.

The Authority is urging members with long-expired cards to renew promptly so they can continue enjoying quality, affordable healthcare services under the scheme.
