Member of Parliament for Lambussie and Board Chairman for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo, has criticized the former government’s Agenda 111 project, describing it as wasteful, ill-conceived, and poorly executed.
“It is one of the most ambitious, ill-planned, ill-executed, very wasteful projects. Nobody in the world does that—starting 111 hospitals at once without dedicated funding. That defies all logic of planning. No piloting phase, nothing. Now we have them dotted all around the country,” Prof. Beyuo said.
During the 2026 budget presentation, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced plans to complete ten of the abandoned hospitals under the initiative in 2026. He also pledged to ensure the completion of key facilities including the La General Hospital, Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, and the Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua.
“These projects symbolize our commitment to restoring trust and confidence in public healthcare delivery,” Dr. Forson stated.
Speaking to EIB Network’s Ibrahim Alhassan, Prof. Beyuo emphasized the urgency of salvaging the situation.
“If we don’t salvage the situation, a lot of Ghanaian taxpayers’ money is at risk. These are hospitals in need. So I’m hopeful that very soon we’ll come up with a strategic plan on what we are going to do with these facilities,” he said.
