NPP rejects Asante-Boateng’s ‘alien’ comment about Bawumia, says party belongs to all Ghanaians

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to inclusivity, equality, and national unity, following public backlash over comments attributed to Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng.

The Party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, described the remarks as unfortunate and made clear that they do not reflect the values or principles of the Party.

“The National Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party has noted with concern certain comments attributed to the Honourable Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South and considers such a statement unfortunate. The Party disassociates itself completely from those remarks,” He said in  statement issued on Saturday.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong emphasized that the NPP remains rooted in its founding principles of freedom, justice, democracy, and equal opportunity for all citizens.

“As a political tradition founded on these values, the Party remains dedicated to fostering a society where every Ghanaian—irrespective of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or social background—can participate meaningfully in the governance and development of our nation,” he said.

The MP is reported to have described former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and flagbearer in the 2024 elections as an outaider brought in to serve the NPP and cannot therefore lead it.

Mr Kodua Frimpong noted that membership and recognition within the NPP are determined not by personal attributes or identity but by loyalty, commitment, and service to the Party’s cause and the national interest.

“The NPP welcomes all citizens who subscribe to its core values and principles and are willing to contribute to Ghana’s democratic and developmental agenda,” the statement added.

Reaffirming the Party’s identity as one of unity and progress, the General Secretary assured Ghanaians that the NPP would continue to promote respect, tolerance, and inclusiveness in the nation’s political discourse.
