The Police Administration is intensifying its fight against human trafficking, exposing a dark web of deceit that preys on desperate job seekers lured by false promises of lucrative work abroad. Instead, these victims face unimaginable abuse and exploitation.
In a startling revelation, authorities have uncovered new, sophisticated trafficking routes, with criminals moving victims across multiple countries to evade detection by security forces.
Between September 5 and 19, a major police operation has resulted in the rescue of 60 victims—41 foreign nationals found within Ghana’s borders and 19 Ghanaians safely repatriated after being trafficked abroad.
Police CID Director General COP Lydia Yaakor Donkor is warning the public against falling for scams, reminding everyone that no legitimate recruitment agency would ever ask applicants to embark on dangerous, multi-country road journeys. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday September 24, 2025, the CID Director General stated, “Investigations have shown that traffickers now adopt new methods, transiting victims through multiple countries before reaching their final destinations to evade detection”.
COP Donkor added, “individuals are encouraged to verify the authenticity of offers aboard before committing themselves. Members of the public are also reminded that it is an offence to lure or recruit others under false pretenses. Those found culpable will face full rigours of the law.”
Authorities are calling on survivors and communities to break the silence and share their stories, helping to safeguard others from falling into the traps of traffickers.
“Victims of trafficking are hereby encouraged to promptly report to the nearest police station for assistance,” COP Donkor said, urging vigilance, honesty, and solidarity from all sectors of society.
The message is clear: Together, we can dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable lives from exploitation.
