Three state cars have been retrieved from the residence of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, as part of a nationwide exercise to reclaim government assets in private hands.
The recovery was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, who revealed that the operation was carried out with the support of National Security operatives.
According to her, five government vehicles had been identified at Wontumi’s residence, but only three were successfully taken back, with efforts still underway to retrieve the remaining two.
“In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she explained in an interview on Citi FM.
The MASLOC boss stressed that individuals in possession of state assets must either return them or settle outstanding obligations.
She noted that several similar cases of misused or withheld government vehicles had already been reported to the police, underscoring the Centre’s determination to protect public property.
The exercise, officials say, forms part of a broader accountability push to ensure that government assets are not turned into private property.
MASLOC has promised that all recovered vehicles will be redirected to serve their intended purpose of supporting the Centre’s work in providing microfinance and small loan services to Ghanaians.
