Some residents of the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region have rejected a recent survey that ranked their Member of Parliament, Dr. Stephen Amoah, among low-performing legislators, insisting the assessment does not reflect his work in Parliament or the constituency.
The residents made the remarks during an interaction with the MP on Wednesday, July 22, following the release of a parliamentary performance survey by Global InfoAnalytics.
One resident, Kojo Boakye, described Dr. Amoah as one of Ghana’s most effective lawmakers, citing his contributions to parliamentary debates, particularly on economic and financial issues.
“Dr. Stephen Amoah is one of the best Members of Parliament. He contributes significantly on the floor of Parliament and has delivered several extemporaneous speeches that demonstrate his knowledge and competence,” he said.
The residents highlighted Dr. Amoah’s role as Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee and his membership of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee, arguing that he has consistently distinguished himself through his contributions to national policy discussions.
They also pointed to his constituency development initiatives, including the award of more than 3,000 scholarships, road construction and rehabilitation projects, the distribution of over 2,400 pieces of furniture to five senior high schools, donation of computers to schools, and the provision of a pickup vehicle to support local security operations.
According to the residents, the MP has also invested in skills training programmes for more than 1,000 constituents in areas such as shoemaking, bead making, cake production and DSTV installation, while providing over 800 sewing machines to beneficiaries to help them establish businesses.
They further cited the establishment of Nhyiaeso FC to promote youth development through sports and a scientific demographic study commissioned by the MP to support planning and development within the constituency.
The residents maintained that these achievements contradict the findings of the survey and urged pollsters to consider both parliamentary performance and constituency development when assessing legislators.
