Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe — popularly known as Abronye DC — has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest remain unclear.
Abronye, a controversial political figure, recently made headlines after filing applications for political asylum in eight countries — Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
In his petitions, he alleged “consistent, escalating political persecution, threats to my life, and systemic abuse of state security powers by the current Government of Ghana,” claiming these warranted international protection.
He further claimed that shortly after the NDC government assumed office, he was invited, arrested, and detained by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) for 13 hours over his public criticism of what he described as the government’s “crude, unfair, and blanket dismissal” of over 150,000 Ghanaian workers, for which he demanded their immediate reinstatement.
Ahead of his arrest, armed police officers reportedly raided the home of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday in search of Abronye, but he was not found at the location.
