Ablakwa dismisses $5.2m embassy renovation allegations as false and malicious

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has strongly refuted widespread rumors alleging that he awarded a contract worth $5.2 million for the renovation of Ghana’s embassy in Benin.

The claims, which circulated over the weekend on social media and some online portals, suggested that the minister had approved the controversial deal. However, in a firm rebuttal, Ablakwa described the reports as “false and malicious,” stressing that he has not signed off on any embassy renovation project since assuming office.

“For the record, I have not awarded any embassy renovation contract anywhere in the world. Let me be clear — not a single embassy renovation or construction contract has been awarded by me since I became Foreign Minister,” he posted on X.

Rather than committing public funds to fresh projects, Ablakwa said he has worked to protect taxpayers. He cited his cancellation of a \$3.5 million single-source contract to renovate Ghana’s embassy in Abidjan, awarded on November 7, 2024, as proof of his commitment to transparency.

He urged the public to disregard the rumor and treat it with “utter contempt,” assuring Ghanaians of his dedication to safeguarding the nation’s resources and upholding President Mahama’s Reset Agenda.

“I shall never betray the trust of the Ghanaian people as we work tirelessly, and with integrity, to achieve President Mahama’s Reset Agenda,” he added.
