WAEC invigilator caught with answer-laden phone at Forces SHS

An exam invigilator at Forces Senior High School in Accra has found himself in hot waters after he was caught with a mobile phone in the examination hall during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The invigilator, who is also a Visual Arts teacher at the school, was caught by a monitoring team from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), led by its Public Relations Officer, John Kapi. The team was on a routine inspection of selected examination centres when the incident occurred.

Matters worsened for the invigilator when it was discovered that the phone contained answers to the Oral English paper, as well as questions from previous exams, including Picture Making and English Orals.
WAEC has since invited the teacher for questioning as part of ongoing investigations.
Commenting on the issue, Dr. Rosemond Wilson, Head of the National Office at WAEC, confirmed the incident:
“One invigilator was in possession of a mobile phone, and invigilators are not supposed to take mobile phones into the examination hall. So, we have taken the matter up and we’ll deal with it.”

She added:
“The mobile phone had some of our questions for previous exams they had written like Picture Making and English Orals — and also answers.”
WAEC has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and has warned that anyone found complicit in malpractice will face the full rigour of the law.
