18 Obogu Saviour Church members die in tragic accident at Juaso

A devastating road accident on the Atwedie-Juaso section of the Accra-Kumasi highway has claimed the lives of 18 members of the Obogu Saviour Church Youth Ministry, leaving the entire Obogu community in sorrow.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday when a fuel tanker travelling from Kumasi towards Accra attempted to overtake another vehicle but suffered a tyre burst, resulting in a head-on collision with a Ford Transit bus carrying the church youth group.

The group was enroute to Obogu from a youth congress held in Koforidua when the tragedy struck at a place called Waterworks near Juaso.

Church elder Mr. Kofi Baah confirmed the heartbreaking incident, revealing that among the deceased are the children of the church’s Head Pastor.

“Some parents have lost two or even three children. The pain is unbearable,” he said in an emotional interview.

“Fifteen bodies have been deposited at the Juaso Government Hospital mortuary, while four others are in critical condition at the hospital’s emergency unit,” Mr. Baah added.

Emergency teams from the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), the National Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service from Juaso and Konongo swiftly responded to the scene.

The victims, aged between 4 and 21 years, were given immediate attention.

The accident has plunged the Obogu Township into a state of mourning, with community members and church leaders struggling to come to terms with the scale of the loss.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, while grief counselors are expected to be deployed to support the affected families.
